CINCINNATI – The Black Team captured the annual Red vs Black World Series on Tuesday night at UC Baseball Stadium.
Rosters were drafted last week with players being selected by position group. RHP Zach Segal and 1B Ryan Nicholson were selected as captains of the Red Team while RHP Jackson Murphy and C Cam Scheler were selected as captains of the Black Team. Two-way freshman Griffin Hugus was the number one overall pick by the Black Team.

Game 1 Recap
The Black Team pulled away late to defeat the Red Team by a final score of 9-4 on Saturday afternoon.
Both teams’ starting pitchers looked sharp in the first inning with graduate student Dylan Brosky and redshirt sophomore Colby Haines each retiring the side for their respective teams.
It wouldn’t take long for the scoring to begin though, as Griffin Hugus hammered an RBI double off the batter’s eye, stole third base and sprinted home on a wild pitch to give the Black Team a 2-0 lead in the top of the 2nd inning.
The Red Team responded quickly with a pair of extra-base knocks; an RBI double off the bat of redshirt sophomore Kory Klingenbeck and a game-tying RBI triple from redshirt sophomore Sean Springer.
The score would hold at 2-2 until the top of the fifth when junior Cole Harting drove an RBI double into right center to retake the lead for the Black Team.
The runs would keep coming in the top of the sixth thanks to a bases-clearing triple from junior Josh Hegeman and an RBI single from true freshman Marcus Smith to give the Black Team a 7-2 advantage.
The Red Team would chip away with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame, but the rally would end there as redshirt junior Max Palmieri and sophomore Lauden Brooks each picked up an RBI to bring the final score to 9-4

Game 2 Recap
The Black Team won in comeback fashion on Sunday afternoon in a 5-3 victory.
Again, both starting pitchers got off to a strong start with both Jackson Murphy and true freshman Tommy Boba tossing scoreless frames to begin the game.
In the bottom of the second inning, true freshman Nathan Merritt would draw a bases-loaded walk to plate the first run of the game for the Black Team.
The Red Team would respond quickly in the top of the third to take a 3-1 lead, highlighted by a solo home run by Kory Klingenbeck and an RBI single by redshirt freshman C.J. Dean.
The Black Team would chip away in the bottom of the fourth off an RBI double from Griffin Hugus before tying things up on a Cole Harting solo home to center field in the fifth. Josh Hegeman would cap things off for the Black Team with a two-run single to bring the final score to 5-3.

Game 3 Recap
The Red Team defeated the Black Team 5-4 on Tuesday night in the Fall Ball to the finals.
The Red Team jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first off RBI knocks from redshirt junior Ryan Nicholson and true freshman Kyle Schupmann.
Dueling team captains Ryan Nicholson and Cam Scheler put on an impromptu home run derby the rest of the way, trading off home runs in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Nicholson with a pair of solo shots for the Red Team and Scheler with a solo shot and three-run blast for the Black Team to make the final score 5-4.
