Former Houston Texans All-Pro JJ Watt and Ex-Houston Dash standout Kealia Ohai Watt announced the birth of their son, Koa James Watt, on Tuesday evening.

Koa James was born on Sunday, with each posting pictures to social media two days later. The couple announced back in June that they were expecting their first child.

The Watts—who were introduced by JJ’s then-Texans teammate and Kealia’s brother-in-law Brian Cushing—married in Feb. 2020. JJ currently plays for the Arizona Cardinals, while Kealia is a member of the NWSL’s Chicago Red Stars.

JJ played for the Texans from 2011-20, and remains arguably the most recognizable figure in franchise history. He won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award three times and was a six-time All-Pro and five-time Pro Bowler during his tenure in Houston, in addition to being named the 2017 Walter Payton Man of the Year. The latter honor came following an act of kindness that symbolized what he meant to the city of Houston. In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, JJ announced a fundraising effort with an initial goal of $200,000, $100,000 of which he put up himself. Within 19 days, according to houstontexans.com, he had raised more than $37 million to help support those impacted by the catastrophic event.

Kealia spent six seasons with the Dash after being drafted No. 2 overall in 2014, appearing in 114 games with 108 starts. She was the club’s all-time leader in goals with 28 when she was traded to the Red Stars in 2020.
