Lil Nas X partied at SF drag club Oasis this weekend

The night before his sold-out show at Bill Graham Civic Auditorium on Sunday, Lil Nas X stopped by San Francisco LGBTQ nightclub Oasis for some fun.

The pop star’s security team contacted Oasis’ security team to ask if he and his group of 20 could drop by, club owner D’Arcy Drollinger told SFGATE. The event of the night was “Boo-lesque,” a Halloween-themed version of the club’s usual Saturday dance and drag party.

“Of course, we said yes,” Drollinger said. “He brought all his dancers and a whole security team. Having that presence there was like, OK, yes, we have a superstar in the club.”

The audience and the club’s performers alike were psyched to have the “Old Town Road” rapper in the club.

“He was so sweet and kind to everybody,” Drollinger said. “He tipped all the performers so well and kept making it rain dollar bills. Afterwards, he went outside and was on the street talking to people, hugging people — he even got tacos at the taco truck that always parks in front of the club.”

Drollinger also noted he was impressed that Lil Nas X paid for everyone in his entourage, including their drinks (if you’re curious, the star himself drank tequila).

“A lot of times when you’re dealing with famous people, they’re used to getting everything for free, but he was adamant about paying a cover for all his people, paying for the drinks, tipping all the performers,” he said . “He is not taking his stardom for granted.”

The following night, after his concert, Oasis hosted a Lil Nas X-themed after-party. Drollinger attended the Bill Graham show, which he thoroughly enjoyed.

“He’s still so young in his career, but he’s a real trailblazer in the sense that there’s never been such an openly out pop star at his level that I can think of, and so unabashedly free about being who he is,” he said. “As someone who grew up gay in a different time, it’s so exciting to see his success and his ability to be that free about who he is and to do it so glamorously and fun, … and he’s so cute.”

Oasis has started to make a tradition out of hosting after-parties for big-name pop stars’ concerts, like Lady Gaga. Next up? lizzo. While it’s not every day Oasis has a Lil Nas X-type experience, Drollinger is holding out hope that Lizzo will make an appearance at the club after her Nov. 12 Chase Center shows.

For now, though, Oasis is busy preparing for Halloween, with a three-day event called “Hell Hole” from Saturday, Oct. 29, to Monday, Oct. 31.
